OAKLAND, Calif. (September 1, 2021) – The University of California Partnership Programs (UC Partnership Programs) and Farmers Insurance Group® today announced the expansion of the current multicampus relationship to include five additional UC campuses. The extension is the result of a successful program which currently offers personal auto, homeowners and renters insurance products to the Berkeley, Davis and San Diego campuses. Through the Farmers GroupSelect℠ program these insurance products will now be available to the Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz campuses.
Employees at participating campuses will be able to access the innovative Farmers Insurance Choice℠ platform, which personalizes the customer experience by furnishing multiple quotes from highly-rated insurance carriers for coverage tailored to their needs. In addition, employees will have access to convenient, automatic payment options, including payroll deduction on Farmers GroupSelect℠ products through the UCPath system; and access to educational content and one-on-one consulting.
“The expansion of our relationship with the University of California Partnership Programs enables Farmers® to offer additional insurance choices to employees, each with their own specific needs,” said Darla Finchum, president of Farmers® Workplace Solutions. “Additionally, Farmers Insurance Choice℠ allows us to respond to individual needs, delivering a variety of insurance quotes and high-quality products through a personalized experience.”
UC Partnership Programs is part of the SupplyChain500 Initiative (SC500), a UC effort to transform UC procurement/supply chains to deliver an annual benefit of $500 million in support of the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service. UC Partnership Programs collaborated with the additional campuses to identify areas of opportunity within the framework of the current relationship. Each campus evaluated how the relationship would benefit their campus community and made an independent decision to join the program.
The relationship which originally launched in October 2020 under MetLife Auto & Home®, transitioned to Farmers GroupSelect following the successful acquisition of MetLife’s property and casualty business by Farmers in April 2021. The program was originally selected after a robust and collaborative evaluation process in summer 2020. Each potential provider was reviewed and scored based on a variety of areas, such as stakeholder benefits, insurance products and services, strategic brand alignment, corporate social responsibility, research and innovation, and total campus revenue and cost savings.
“Farmers Insurance Group continues to prioritize UC’s unique needs and values, further strengthening our collaborative relationship,” said Amy Gardner, executive program lead of UC Partnership Programs. “The Farmers Insurance Choice℠ platform offers a wide range of products and services that allows our campus community members to choose what’s right for them.”
