OAKLAND, Calif. (June 8, 2022) – Today, the University of California Partnership Programs (UCPP) and Farmers GroupSelect℠, part of one of the nation’s leading multiline insurer groups, announced the final, phased expansion of The Group Auto and Home Program. The expanded program will be available for employees at all 10 University of California (UC) campuses and their academic health centers, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources, UC Hastings College of the Law and the Berkeley Lab, making this the first multicampus relationship to span the full university system.

Employees at these campuses will be able to access the innovative Farmers Insurance Choice℠ platform, a powerful comparison tool that helps employees explore and compare the best automobile, homeowners and renters coverage from highly-rated insurance carriers.

The relationship with Farmers GroupSelect℠ will also provide most employees access to convenient, automatic payment options, including payroll deduction for Farmers GroupSelect℠ products through the UCPath system and access to educational content and one-on-one consulting.

UC Partnership Programs, which launched in June 2019, works collectively across UC campuses and other locations to create dynamic multicampus and systemwide partnerships between business providers and the University of California. UCPP is part of the Procurement Excellence program which builds on the former SupplyChain500 (SC500) program to drive continued improvement by connecting the power of the entire UC system – including UC Health – to deliver innovative supply chain solutions in support of teaching, research and public service. Procurement Excellence focuses on increasing capability and capacity, with a spotlight on five key priorities including economic and social responsibility, growing strategic partnerships, driving savings and value delivery, increasing operational efficiency and managing risk.

“Our focus is on working with our strategic partners to deliver value in all senses of the word,” says Paul Williams, UC Associate Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer. “We are not solely focused on reducing cost, we are focused on increasing service and opportunities for faculty, staff and students; and on positively impacting the broader community.”

This insurance program was originally selected after a robust and collaborative request for proposal (RFP) evaluation process in summer 2020. Each potential provider was reviewed and scored based on a variety of areas, such as stakeholder benefits, insurance products and services, strategic brand alignment, corporate social responsibility, research and innovation, and total campus revenue and cost savings.

The relationship with Farmers GroupSelect℠ was implemented in three phases, with the initial launch occurring in October 2020 at the Berkeley, Davis and San Diego campuses. In 2021, the relationship extended to serve five additional UC campuses – Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz. The current phase III, launching this month, covers Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Berkeley Lab, Hastings College of the Law, San Francisco and UCLA.
